Pelog

String Quartet

This piece, written from winter of 2014 to fall of 2015, is an exploration in a scale used commonly in Balinese and Javanese gamelan ensembles known as Pelog. As it is commonly used, the Pelog scale consists of (as far as our Western tuning system will allow) the scale degrees 1, 3, 4, 5, and 7. This piece explores different facets of this scale, as well as other elements of Javanese and Balinese gamelan music.
